Cleaners in Ham
Ham is TW10, south west beyond Petersham, and the housing here belongs to a different era from the rest of our patch. Postwar estates, some 1930s stock, and larger houses looking onto Ham Common. Concrete floors, mostly. We are down this way at least once a week, and Ham House sits at the bottom of it all on the towpath.
Wall to wall carpet on solid floors
Postwar houses tend to have concrete ground floors with fitted carpet run wall to wall, which is straightforward to clean and slower to dry than boards, because a solid floor gives the moisture nowhere to go. Solid floors hold damp. Reckon on four to six hours before heavy furniture goes back and about two before you walk on it. A bedroom is £36, a living room £43 and a through lounge £61. The carpet page has the stairs price and the drying detail.
The park gates
The quick road between Ham and the town runs past Richmond Park, and the park shuts its gates at dusk with the through roads closed altogether during the deer culls. That takes out the direct route towards Roehampton and it stretches a late afternoon job here by more than people expect. Our answer is to give Ham the morning slots through the winter. Mornings are safer here. The 371 and the R68 buses cover the area, so a cleaner can still reach you when the van is elsewhere.
Ham Common and the bigger houses
The houses facing Ham Common are a different size of job from the estate streets behind them, and they tend to come with more carpet down and a range cooker in the kitchen. A 90cm range is £114 and a through lounge is £61. The lanes running down towards the river are narrow enough that we park once and carry the kit in rather than trying to get any closer to the door. It is a walk with a hose. The oven page has the rest of the appliance prices.
Regular cleaning on the estates
Weekly at £22 per cleaner per hour, fortnightly at £24, with the same cleaner kept on your house rather than a rotating list of names. Two hours is the shortest visit worth booking. Below that you are mostly paying for travelling. What a regular visit covers is set out in full on the service page.
Move out cleans
Fixed on bedroom count, so a two bedroom house is £243 and a three bedroom £339. The end of tenancy clean has the oven cleaned by hand inside the price, and carpets are added separately at £36 a bedroom.
What people book here, in order: regular cleaning, then carpets, then move outs. Ovens come up less. Deep cleans mostly turn up when a house changes hands.
Petersham is next door and we do the two on the same runs, so the Petersham page is worth a look if you are up towards the Meadows. Everything else sits on the main Richmond page.
Questions we get asked
How long does a fitted carpet take to dry in a postwar house?
Four to six hours before heavy furniture goes back and about two before you walk on it. A solid concrete floor under the carpet holds moisture longer than suspended timber does.
Do you cover the Ham estates?
Yes, weekly and fortnightly work as well as one off jobs. £22 per cleaner per hour weekly, £24 fortnightly, with a two hour minimum visit.
How much is a three bedroom end of tenancy clean in Ham?
£339, fixed on bedroom count before we start, with the oven cleaned by hand included. Carpets go on separately at £36 a bedroom and £41 for a flight of stairs.
